Did you know the month of May signifies both Mental Health Awareness Month and Foster Care Month? According to childwelfare.gov, “There are over 391,000 children and youth in foster care. Mental and behavioral health is the largest unmet health need for these children and teens.” As such, this year’s theme is “Strengthening Minds. Uplifting Families.”

In recognition of National Foster Care Month, here are some key facts from childwelfare.gov:

We believe all children, no matter their history or diagnosis can achieve individual successes.

At Camelot Care Centers, also known as “Camelot,” we employ a comprehensive, team-approach to our clinical care and treatment philosophy, which is child-specific and tailored to the needs and diagnosis of the individual child. We believe it is the combined efforts of the clinician, caseworker, and foster parents, along with the entire treatment team at Camelot, that ultimately leads to a child’s success and improved mental health. This team approach is the foundation of clinical care for our foster youth.

As a Child Welfare Agency licensed by the State of Illinois, a member of the Illinois Collaboration on Youth (ICOY), and accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA),

Camelot’s comprehensive service line includes case management, foster parent support and training, in-home counseling, therapeutic mentoring and access to telepsychiatry to help create healthy environments of care. Foster parents are informed and included in every step of the process and are a necessary component for success in treatment.

Maybe you can’t change the whole world, but you can change the whole world of a child.

Camelot has offered a broad range of youth and family services since 1972, improving the lives of children, families, and communities. All services provided are designed to maintain children at the least restrictive yet most appropriate level of care and to support youth in care of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in foster homes. Every child needs and deserves to grow up safe and protected from abuse and neglect, and caring foster parents offer children support and stability when they need it most. At Camelot Care Centers, we specialize in higher-level foster care for children and adolescents that need extra support. We partner with our foster parents/homes to provide trauma informed care and additional services, including in-home counseling, parent support and training, tele-psychiatry, and therapeutic mentoring, to maintain children at the least restrictive, yet most appropriate level of care.
